Quick Start: Run Notion-As-Blog Locally

Run the project locally

📋
Duplicate the Notion template first: Duplicate the Notion-As-Blog Template. After duplicating, connect your own integration to the copied Posts and Authors databases, then use the copied data source IDs in your environment variables.

This guide takes you from a fresh clone to a working local site. You need Node.js, a duplicated Notion template, and a Notion integration connected to your Posts data source.

Clone and install

bash
git clone GitHub Repository.git
cd notion-as-blog
npm install

Create your environment file

bash
cp .env.example .env.local

Fill .env.local with your Notion integration secret, Posts data source id, optional Authors data source id, and runtime secrets.

plain text
NOTION_API_KEY=your_notion_integration_secret
NOTION_DATA_SOURCE_ID=your_posts_data_source_id
NOTION_AUTHORS_DATA_SOURCE_ID=your_authors_data_source_id
TOKEN_FOR_REVALIDATE=long_random_secret
NOTION_IMAGE_SIGNING_SECRET=another_long_random_secret
NOTION_IMAGE_CACHE_SECONDS=3300

Start the app

bash
npm run dev

Open http://localhost:3000. If the connection is correct, rows with status=Public and type=Post will appear in the feed.

Before deploying

bash
npm run build
✅
A successful production build is the fastest way to confirm that Notion access, TypeScript, metadata generation, and routes are working together.
